The beaches, explained

Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach: which is which

Three separate cities share one continuous stretch of sand on Jacksonville's coast. People use the names loosely. This is the geography, north to south, and where Tidewater sits in it.

North to south

Atlantic Beach is the northernmost of the three, from Hanna Park down to Atlantic Boulevard, with the Town Center at its southern edge. It is the smallest and quietest, with its own city government. Tidewater is at its north end, on Mayport Road, 2.3 miles from the Atlantic Boulevard beach access.

Neptune Beach begins immediately south of Atlantic Boulevard, so the Town Center straddles the line between the two cities. It is a few blocks of beach town between the other two.

Jacksonville Beach is the largest and busiest, south of Neptune Beach, with the pier and the longer oceanfront strip of hotels, restaurants and events.

What the names mean on a listing

An apartment advertised as "at the beaches" or "Jacksonville Beach area" can be on either side of the Intracoastal Waterway. The bridge crossing is the real dividing line. Tidewater is east of the Intracoastal, in Atlantic Beach proper, which is why our address says Atlantic Beach and not Jacksonville, even though the ZIP code's postal label does.

Living in the quiet one

From here, Town Center and the start of Neptune Beach are 2.1 miles, Hanna Park is 2.1 miles, and the busier end of the beaches is a short drive south when you want it. One bedrooms are 660 square feet from $1,329 a month and two bedroom, two bath homes are 880 square feet from $1,459, both with quartz counters, wood-look flooring and a full-size washer and dryer in the home.
